Navarakizhi / Shali Shashti Pinda Swedan
Shashtishali Pinda Sweda another term known as ‘Navarakizhi’. Shastika indicates, ‘Sixty’, shali means ‘Rice’, pinda means ‘A bolus’, and sweda means ‘Sweat’. Thus it is defined as a small potli made by wrapping the cloth around the medicinal rice.
The treatment includes a full-body abhyanga with preparation of milk and rice to obtain maximum sweating. The use of various medicinal herbs in the mixture helps to detoxify the whole body naturally.
Procedure – In this, Balamool is washed thoroughly with sterile water to remove dirt, dust, and mud. Balamool is cut into small pieces and are put in a vessel containing sterile water. The mixture is boiled till the quantity is reduced to ¼ of the initial quantity. After that, the liquid is strained to remove the solid part to obtain a decoction of Bala Kwath.
The treatment begins with the Abhyangam, then the prepared bolus is dipped in the processed milk are rubbed and stroked on both sides of the patient’s body in a rhythmic way. The strokes are given in a clockwise and circular motion and should cover all the joints of the body. The strokes are made in a downward direction from the nape of the neck to the lower back and from the hip towards the feet. The boluses are replaced with a warm once they lose their temperature. The procedure must be conducted for the recommended duration without any interruption.
