Thaila dhara is an ayurvedic treatment for rheumatic complaints, arthritis and neurological disorders .It is a combination of massage  and heat treatment .Oil used in Thaila Dhara is selected by the ayurvedic practitioner depending upon the ayurvedic constitution of the patient .Pizhichil Treatment is also effective against degenerative diseases such as Arthritis and Spondylosis, pains such as muscular pains and joint stiffness, sexual weakness and menstrual problems. Thaila dhara is also an excellent treatment to relieve certain skin problems, and it also happens to be best treatment for sunburn.
Thaila Dhara is one of the type of Shirodhara in which liquid used is medicated oil .Herbs added in the preparation of oil is selected depending upon the problems faced by the patient and the nature of his or her body constitution.

Sarvangdhara means dhara given on whole body. Pizhichil means squeezing warm medicated oil all over the body with the help of cloth pieces, which are periodically dipped into vessels containing oil. Material used  1. hair oil 2. medicated oil or sesame oil 3. cloth pieces Method: Give a full body massage, including head (15-20 min). Now heat oil in a vessel and simultaneously dip and squeeze the cloth bags on the body of the patient. Use one hand to massage the body and the other hand to pour the oil (30 min). Then wipe off the oil with hot water. Indication 1. hemiplegia 2. paralysis 3. spasm 4. degenerative diseases affecting muscles . Sarvangdhara can also be done with dugdh (ksheerdhara) and takra (takradhara) in the similar way as done with oil.
